Confession: I'm not exactly an apple girl. I mean, I compute on an Apple, text on an Apple, and pad around on an Apple. But eat an apple raw? Not my fav fruit. Does this make me a crabapple?
I LOVE the way apples look — red, green, pink, yellow — and marvel at how convenient they are to enjoy. From orchard to palette — just pick, polish, and eat! Instant happiness!
As a girl, we sang the Johnny Appleseed song at Y-Camp. Wikipedia notes that "later in life he became a vegetarian." As opposed to fruitarian? Random detail: my parents went through a "we're going to be Quaker phase," and we'd attend Quaker meetings where we'd sit in silence until one of the kids would start giggling, or kicking the back of the chair of the other. Then we'd be escorted into a room far enough down the hall as to not disrupt the adults. To pacify us (Quakers are the ultimate pacficists), we were given red apple slices with peanut butter. Allergic to peanuts, I abstained (also a strong Quaker trait!), and spent the break contemplating the personalities of the apples before me.
